Trained by last year’s top gun, Gary Messenger Get Chipped was driven by Jimmy Taggart, Jr.
Once again assigned the outside position Taggart was content to get away last in the six horse field and waited until Mike Forte moved Special Eddie first up heading to the half before he moved Get Chipped out to follow the cover.
From there the two trotters ranged alongside leader My Buddy Chimo (Jimmy Marohn, Jr.) and as the field came off the final turn a blanket could have covered them all. Six trotters rushed to the finish but Get Chipped on the far outside was the first horse to reach the wire but she did so by only a head over Special Eddie. My Cool Breeze and Mike Merton were third in that photo and the fifth place finisher SF Sure Thing (Rick Harp) was just one-tick behind the winner.
A lifetime winner of over $330,000 Get Chipped is owned by Dr. Scott Leaf and Ken Weckstein, both from Virginia. She paid $5.20for win.
The trotting co-feature saw Yonkers Raceway import, Good Ride Cowboy, annihilate his field when he swept to a five-length triumph in a 2:00.2 clocking.
Trained and driven by Brandon Simpson it marked the first seasonal triumph for the Smokey Legend 7 year old gelding.
Traveling in the back of the back with cover Simpson waited until the three quarters to unleash his trotter and when he did Good Ride Cowboy gave Simpson a good ride when they circled the competition and drew off to a five length triumph over Sin To Win, driven by Mike Merton.
Good Ride Cowboy is owned by Jody Siamis of Marion, IA. He paid $4.20 for win
