YR - YONKERS BRINGING BACK SHEPPARD PACE FOR FROSH COLTS/GELDINGS

BY FRANK DRUCKER, Publicity Director, Empire City @ Yonkers Raceway

YONKERS, NY, Tuesday, March 6, 2012--Yonkers Raceway is bringing back the Lawrence B. Sheppard Pace, for years the Raceway's signature event for 2-year-old colts and geldings.

The Sheppard, dormant since 2003, is scheduled to offer elimination races ($25,000 each division) Saturday night, July 14, with the $100,000 (est.) final going Saturday night, July 21.

An original $250 nomination is due Apr. 1, with a $250 sustaining payment due May 1. Yonkers Raceway is to add a minimum of $75,000 to the event.

Nomination forms are available in the nightly racing program and on-line (www.yonkersraceway.com) and, sooner rather than later, in various harness publications and their respective sites.

"We are pleased to have this race again as part of our stakes schedule," general manager Bob Galterio said. "The Sheppard had been a major event for us, and there have been any number of requests to have it return. We're confident it's going to be well-received."

For additional information, please contact the race office at (914) 457-2627.

Yonkers' five-night-per-week (Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday) live schedule continues. First post for all programs remains at 7:10 PM. Evening simulcasting accompanies all live programs, with afternoon simulcasting available around the NYRA schedule.
