MANALAPAN, NJ – March 23, 2012 – Freehold Raceway issued a statement on March 23, 2012, barring horses from Saratoga Raceway.
“Any horse that has either raced or been on the premises of Saratoga Raceway in the month of March will not be permitted at Freehold Raceway until further notice,” according to the statement issued by Director of Racing Karen Fagliarone.
Cases of strangles were recently diagnosed in horses on the Saratoga backstretch. Strangles (strepococcus equi) is an acute respiratory infection characterized by a fever, lethargy, nasal discharge and swollen lymph nodes.
