It should be noted that there were two more programs of racing this February (17 vs. 15) as compared to last year. Not including the two additional programs, the year over year increase remained a healthy 30%.
The major growth came from remote wagering, which jumped almost 33%. Live wagering, which was on par in January, was also up 9% for the month.
“It was the first time that I can remember being up every day – year over year – for an entire month,” said The Raceway’s General Manager Ian Fleming. “A lot of things have to go right for that to happen. We had good weather, a better time slot and improved distribution this year which all helps.
“It looks as though the numbers have not only been good here but also in other parts of Ontario which is certainly an encouraging sign.”
The popular Pick-4 guarantee was increased in February from $4,000 to $5,000 and the average daily pool -on days the guarantee was offered - grew to $6,190.
Beginning this Monday, The Raceway will also begin offering a guarantee on the daily pick-5 based on the carryover amount for that day.
“It’s hard to believe, but we are already heading into the homestretch of our meet, so we want to keep that momentum going,” said Fleming. “We are already starting to think about the Molson Pace and ways to make that program even bigger and better this year.”
The Molson Pace is slated for closing night, Friday, May 25. The Raceway is currently operating on a four-day-a-week living racing schedule, every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 4:05 p.m. (ET) and Fridays at 7:05 p.m. (ET).
