Ppk5/8 - Pompano Park Barn Notes

Diaz, Ruiz Team Up For Race Bike Feature

Do this era's top drivers place much importance on acquiring new race bikes when they come to market? And, can they suffer a case of 'sticker shock' when sizing up the pricetag of a new sulky?

Gigi Diaz, the trackside reporter and host for live harness racing at The Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park went to the backstretch to find out. She found opposing viewpoints from Hall Of Famer Wally Hennessey and Joe Pavia Jr., just before he departed for his Summer base at Pocono Downs.

Thee story's cameraman and editor is Pompano's Steven Ruiz. It is 4:05 in length and can be viewed via this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=79WyQYCE4YA

That's 40 For Nillabomb

Although three days of continued and intensified through much of the final program of April at Pompano, the show went on thanks to the South Florida venue's horsepeople and track surface crew.

In the featured $8,500 purse Isle Mile 1 Mares Open Pace, Nillabomb got a prudent steer from Dan Clements just behind battling leaders Looney Dune in rein to Dan Daley and Angela with Wally Hennessey in tow. Turning into the stretch, Nillabomb from the clear road she needed out widest of all to brush home through a blowing rain and drizzle to stop the clock in 1:54.2. Looney Dune gamely persisted for second and She's A Pegase in rein to Tom Sells weaved through stretch for third.

It was the milestone 40th career win for Florida fan favorite Nillabomb, thanks to her distinctive roan color and commonplace game efforts. Eric Beach has trained the 7 year old daughter of Admirals Galley-Be A Little Lady to career earnings of more than $428,000 from her humble beginnings on the Michigan Fair Circuit.
