On the Tuesday card of May29th the aforementioned put on a
clinic of sorts when each won at least a pair of races on the card.
“Looks like they’re tuning up for our Junior Free For All ,
“noted Eric Warner, the track’s director of racing.
Warner was referring to the race that the Mighty M will
feature on June 18th, one day after Father’s Day, in which the sons
of harness racing fathers will do battle not only to honor their
dads but for the bragging rights as the top Junior Free For Aller.
Monticello’s leading driver Jimmy Taggart, Jr. reined both
Winsmith Molly (1:55.4) and Dontmakemelaugh (1:56.2) to victories in races 10
and 11.
Newcomer Kevin Switzer, Jr. , currently sixth on the local
leaderboard , also drove a pair of winners. He scored behind Western Dancing
(1:57.2) in the sixth and then won with Jadestone (1:56.2) in the eighth race.
And 17-time Monticello Raceway driving champion Billy “Zeke” Parker, Jr. also
won a pair; first with Velvety Smooth (1:57.4) in the second race and then with
Orr Hanover (1:55) in the fifth .
However, runner-up in races won here this season , Jimmy
Marohn, Jr. added three more wins to his current resume when he won
with Jeral Theory A (1:55.4) in the seventh race and with
Things Left Unsaid (1:56.1) in the ninth. He capped his afternoon winning with
trotter Heaven And Hall (1:59.1) in the tenth.
The aforementioned are all set for the battle of the
juniors and recently Greg Decker Jr. and Mike Marx Jr. have
thrown their hats in the ring and look forward to being a part the event.
“It looks like we’ve got a good nucleus for an
exciting Junior Free For All race but we still can use a few more
‘juniors’ in order to get a full field,” Warner said.
