Meadowlands Raise Purses, Adds More Earnings
Opportunities
Purses will increase 25 percent for the non-winners of one
and non-winners two classes at the Meadowlands beginning Friday, June 8.
In addition, all horses competing in overnight races at the
Meadowlands will earn money regardless of where they finish. Beginning
Friday, June 8, horses finishing 6-10 will receive two percent of the purse
value. The additional payout will not effect the current purse
distribution to the top five finishers, nor does it apply to stakes races or
late closers.
Two new series for four and five-year-old horses who are
winners of at least $50,000 lifetime but under $150,000 have also been added to
the summer schedule. Nominations will close Wednesday, June 20 for the
Buddy Gilmour for pacers and Paul Doherty for trotters. Both stakes
consist of two $20,000 preliminary legs and an estimated $60,000 final.
The nominating fee for both events is $1000.
The Buddy Gilmour will be raced on consecutive Saturdays
beginning July 7. The Paul Doherty will be raced Fridays beginning June
29. The earnings cap for mares in the Doherty is $200,000 lifetime.
Contact the Meadowlands race office for more
information.
Beginning the week of June 4, Meadowlands Racetrack will
draw on Mondays for Friday morning qualifiers and Tuesdays for Saturday baby
races.
