M1 - Meadowlands Backstretch Demolition Draws To A Close

Demolition of barns and dormitories on the Meadowlands backstretch reached completion this week, marking the first major milestone in New Meadowlands Racetrack LLC’s development of a new grandstand.

Recycling of concrete, wood and metal, and disposal of non-recyclable materials will occur over the next two weeks.  Site work construction is anticipated to begin by mid-month.

The backstretch clearance makes way for a new 155,000 square-foot grandstand expected to be completed by 2014.  LP Ciminelli of Buffalo, NY is the construction manager for the new Meadowlands as well as the Winners off-track wagering facility scheduled to open this July in Bayonne, NJ.

Building construction continues to progress quickly for the 25,000 square-foot Bayonne venue which will boast a sports bar and restaurant, two large simulcast viewing areas and a VIP room.  Asphalt paving took place this week, while landscaping will begin the second week of May.  Inside the building, workers are getting ready to tile the kitchens and have started framing the 38-seat sports bar.  Wiring and duct work is also nearing completion.
