Racing Resumes At Pompano, Head Decision In April 21 Feature

Almost 24 hours of rain cleared away just in time for live racing to resume on Saturday evening, April 21, after a week off at The Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park.

With the track rated as good under clearing skies and a temperature hovering near 80 degrees, the program's top event was the Isle Mile 1 for an $8,000 purse. Favored Talk To Tony with Wally Hennessey in tow was involved in a first quarter scrap for the lead with Flexjet partnered by Bruce Ranger in 27 seconds. Talk To Tony would then post middle markers of 56.1 and 1:24.3, with a challenge coming late in the third quarter from Rick's Sign driven by Andy Santeramo. This pair would duel the entire final quarter with Rick's Sign earning a head decision at the final buzzer in 1:52.4. Paul Holzman trains Rick's Sign, a 7 year old gelding by Life Sign-Lasting Flower K, for owner Andrew Sassen of Hillsboro Beach, FL. It was the second win in twelve starts this year for Rick's Sign and his 34th career win to increase the pacer's lifetime bankroll to more than $207,000.

Keemosabe Impresses In 3 Year Old Debut

Although he didn't win, three year old colt pacer Keemosabe cut the mile against older horses in the $4,700 Isle Mile 4 Pace and finished a strong second with Bruce Ranger in tow in the night's fastest mile of 1:51.4. The event was won by Ron MacArthur's Waldy Jimmy with Dan Clements executing the pocket trip score. Keemosabe, by Squaw's Fella-Bolero Athena made four starts in 2011, including a venture into the Reynolds Stakes at Pocono Downs last July. Jake Leamon is training the promising youngster in Florida for owner Jerry Glantz of Delray Beach. Steve Elliott trained Keemosable in his two year old campaign last year at The Meadowlands and Pocono Downs.
