M1 - Backstretch Demolition Makes Way For New Meadowlands Grandstand

East Rutherford, NJ [April 13, 2012] -- The first phase of New Meadowlands Racetrack LLC’s plans for a new grandstand got underway this week with the demolition of barns and dormitories on the Meadowlands backstretch.

Demolition of Barns 7 and 8, which housed the stables of Ray Remmen, Jim Doherty and Bruce Saunders, and others, over the years.

A portion of a dormitory being removed
Demolition will continue through mid-May to make way for the construction of the 155,000 square-foot building that will replace the current grandstand.  LP Ciminelli of Buffalo, NY is the construction manager for the demolition project.  The firm is also the contractor for the new Winners off-track wagering facility slated to open this July in Bayonne, NJ.  Ciminelli is recycling all the cementitious material from the backstretch demolition for reuse on site.
