M1 - WFAN’s Marc Malusis Wins Broadcaster Charity Race At Meadowlands

East Rutherford, NJ [June 16, 2012] -- WFAN host Marc Malusis took the inside route to win the second heat of the Broadcasters Charity Race on Saturday, June 16 at the Meadowlands Racetrack. 

Malusis and driving partner Daniel Dube rallied along the pylons to catch the pacesetter, Kirk Gimenez of SNY, in the nick of time.  Malusis earned $5,000 for his charity of choice, PKD Foundation. Gimenez, who raced for MDA, and fellow competitors Don LaGreca of ESPN-NY 98.7 FM’s “The Michael Kay Show” (American Heart Association) and Dyrol Joyner of PIX11 (Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation) each earned $1,000 for their charities. 

The Broadcasters Charity Race was a two-day event that put top sportscasters in the sulky for the first time to compete for $17,000 in charitable donations.  The exhibition events were held between the live harness races on Friday and Saturday night at the Meadowlands.  Meadowlands oddsmaker and TVG commentator Darin Zoccali won the first heat and $5,000 for his charity of choice, the James Cancer Fund.  Also earning funds for their charities in the first heat were: Steve Overmyer, sportscaster for CBS 2 (Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation); Jared Max, ESPN-NY 98.7 FM host (Tyler Clementi Foundation); Tina Cervasio, MSG/NY Knicks sideline reporter (Garden Of Dreams Foundation) and Anita Marks/MSG/NY Giants.com & WFAN Host (Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation). 

In addition to the participating sportscasters, Meadowlands Racetrack would like to thank the following trainers and companies for assisting with the horses and sulkies for the event: Mark Ford, Donna Marshall, George Barsa, Laurie Molnar, Freehold Race Secretary, Karen Fagliarone, Superior Sulky and Joyce’s Racing Silks.
