Somwherovrarainbow flys away in frosh-filly elimination

By Frank and Ray Cotolo

Somwheroverarainbow took advantage of the early fast fractions to win the first two-year-old filly pace Breeders Crown elimination in 1:51.2 at Woodbine on Friday.

Nikki Beach made a break at the start, ended up being a pari-mutuel refund  and was far behind the field. L Dees Lioness took the lead, with Somwherovrarainbow in second and Art Ideal in third. L Dees Lioness led the field by the quarter in :26.3.

Power Pack Hanover pulled first over from sixth passing the three-eighths in pursuit of L Dees Lioness approaching the half-mile. Power Pack Hanover was up to Scott Zeron’s wheel at the half in :55.3 (:29).

Into the far turn, Power Pack Hanover took the lead, while L Dees Lioness was pacing right behind in second and Hit The Curb was progressing first over in third. Somwherovrarainbow edged out of the pocket with L Dees Lioness at the three-quarter pole in 1:23.4 (:28.1).

Somwherovrarainbow paced by Power Pack Hanover and L Dees Lioness with ease down the stretch. Love Canal was gaining ground from the backfield, with Hit The Curb giving chase.

Somwherovrarainbow was a dominant 4-length winner at the line in 1:51.2 (:27.3). Love Canal was second, L Dees Lioness was third and Art Ideal was fourth.

Wherethegirls, Mattie Terror Girl and Hit The Curb also proceed to next week’s final. I Luv The Nitelife, Parlee Beach and UF Dragon’s Queen took the byes for the $600,000 final. Belle Boyd was scratched after her warm-up mile didn't suit trainer Carl Jamieson.

Somwherovrarainbow ($23.10) is by Somebeachsomewhere, out of the mare Rainbow Blue by Artiscape. All three are former Breeders Crown champions. She is owned by K and R Racing LLC and George Teague stables, George Teague, Jr. is the trainer and Andy Miller was in the sulky.

“George’s horses are generally on their toes and ready to go. When I was following L Dees Lioness, she was waiting for me to pull then approaching the wire; she drug me along, she did it on her own,” driver Andy Miller said.

That’s a double for trainer Tony Alagna and sire Somebeachsomewhere in the first freshman Crown elims.
