Captaintreacherous strolls in frosh-colt pace elim

By Frank and Ray Cotolo

Tim Tetrick guided the Tony Alagna-trained Captaintreacherous to a 1:50 victory in the first of a duo of two-year-old colt pace Breeders Crown eliminations at Woodbine Racetrack on Friday night.

Rockin Amadeus took the lead, with Emeritus Maximus in second and Dress The Part first over in third. Captaintreacherous parked Dress The Part to the quarter in :26.3. Dress The Part cleared the front entering the backstretch and Emeritus Maximus went off stride suddenly, early interfering with stable mate Captaintreacherous, who  pulled the pocket at the half in :55.3 (:29).

Into the far turn, Captaintreacherous cleared the top with ease. Vegas Vacation came first over and applied pressure, while Twilight Bonfire was tracking his cover. Dress The Part was shuffled to third as Rockin Amadeus charged back in fifth. Three-quarters was timed in 1:23.3 (:28).

Captaintreacherous was free from the field into the stretch. He drew off by about 5 lengths, while Vegas Vacation was fending off rivals for the second spot and Rockin Amadeus was looking for room.

It was all Captaintreacherous alone at the wire and he won the elimination in 1:50 (:26.2). Vegas Vacation was second, Rockin Amadeus was third, Dress The Part was fourth and Twilight Bonfire completed the quintet heading into next week’s final.

Captaintreacherous ($2.30) is by Somebeachsomewhere, out of the mare Worldly Treasure by Artsplace. He is owned by Brittany Farms, Marvin Katz and Joe Sbrocco.

“He does everything right, he wasn’t at the top of his game last week and he still gave it his all,” said Tetrick. “I love driving good horses and that’s why I worked so hard to get the top.”
