MR - ABATON HANOVER SCORES FOURTH WIN IN A ROW & SEVENTH IN LAST 8 STARTS; MAROHN. JR. WINS 4

To say that Abaton Hanover has been a model of consistency would be an understatement. When the 9 -year-old SJ’s Caviar gelding scored  in 2:00.2 at Monticello Raceway on Monday afternoon, February 6th  was the trotters fourth consecutive victory this year.  In his final start last season Abaton Hanover finished second but prior to that the gelding  had strung together three consecutive triumphs and now in his last eight  starts the veteran trotter as seven victories and a second place finish  in his last eight starts.

In all the aforementioned races Abaton Hanover was  driven  by  Jimmy Marohn, Jr.

After starting from the two-hole Abaton Hanover was circled by Contract Hit (Jimmy Devaux) but before the two trotters reached the quarter pole  Marohn moved his trotter to the lead and then proceeded to cut the fractions from there on. After being two lengths in front at the halfway point a serious challenge came from Four Star F and Jimmy Taggart, Jr. who raced head to head with Abaton Hanover past the three quarters and around the final turn. But in the lane Marohn’s charge proved to be the strongest and Abaton Hanover rambled home a 1-1/4-length victor over Four Star F in a season’s best 2:00.1.

Owned and trained by Jennifer Lappe the winner paid $3.50 for win.

It was one of four driving victories on the card for Jimmy Marohn, Jr.  He also scored with Sandy Ogle’s People Friendly in1:58.1; with Ed Hall’s Pinepitch Cam in 1:58.4; and with  Ed Hall’s Community Spirit in 1:58.3.

With the absence of perennial leaders Zeke Parker and Bruce Aldrich Jr. Marohn could easily be the heir apparent. Now with  36 wins at the meet he has vaulted  to the top of the local leaderboard   and leads runner-up Jimmy Taggart, Jr. by 11 wins; 36-27.
