CalX1 - Marlin Hanover Puts Streak On Line At Cal Expo

Marlin Hanover, going in career-best form with three straight trips to the winner’s circle, attempts to extend the skein in Saturday night’s (February 11), $4.500 Winners-Over Pace at Cal Expo, which goes as the fourth event on a 14-race program.

A 5-year-old son of Bettor’s Delight and the Big Towner mare Maura Hanover, Marlin Hanover goes about his business for Richard Morita and David Yamada, is conditioned by Liberio Pacheco and once again has Luke Plano giving directions.

In his January 21 score, the bay performer sat the pocket early, brushed to the front at the half and held safe by a neck.  Two back, he made a huge brush on the backside to the lead, opened up a clear advantage once straightened for home and was three-quarters of a length best.

Sent off the even-money choice in his most recent outing, Marlin Hanover was sent right to the lead by Plano.  He moderated the fractions without pressure, then came home in :27.1 to seal the deal with the 1:53.4 final clocking shaving a fifth off his previous standard.

Haggin Oaks is a multiple stakes-winning mare who was runner-up to Marlin Hanover last time.  The 6-year-old daughter of Hi Ho Silverheels has $93,000 in her account with a 1:53.2 mark from last season.  Shari Burns, Ferris Funk and Gerald Cimini own with James Kennedy doing the driving and training.  Her most recent tally came in coast-to-coast fashion at this level on January 7.

Amigo De Garcia is looking for his first win on the year, but has turned in a serious of sharp miles with a second and four third-place finishes under these conditions.  Steve Wiseman reins and trains the son of Little Steven for Robert Bacon and his 1:56.1 standard was recorded among his eight victories last season.

Completing the field are One And Only, who will have the services of Jim Lackey; Ivegotwhatuneed with Lemoyne Svendsen handling the lines; and Albion, who leaves from the cozy one-hole with David Siegel at the helm.

Live racing resumes at Cal Expo on Friday (February 10) & Saturday (February 11) at 6:00 p.m. (PST).  On every live card, Cal Expo offers free parking & free admission after 4:30 p.m.   On Friday, Cal Expo offers Happy Hour from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on which Beer; Well Drinks & Wine are offered at $4 each, while a Burger with fries is offered at $5.
