YR - SILENT SWING WINS SATURDAY NIGHT 33G OPEN HANDICAP PACE

BY FRANK DRUCKER, Publicity Director, Empire City @ Yonkers Raceway

YONKERS, NY, Saturday, January 14, 2012 -- Odds-on Silent Swing (George Brennan) finished what he started Saturday night, winning Yonkers Raceway's $33,000 Open Handicap Pace.

Assigned post position No. 5, Silent Swing comfortably worked around pole-sitting Grab Your Keys (Larry Stalbaum) before a 28-second opening quarter-mile.  Left to his own devices, Silent Swing then found a :56.4 intermission before Southern Allie (Jason Bartlett) made his second move.

However, that one offered only token pressure in and out of a 1:24.1 three-quarters, with Silent Swing up a length-and-a-half turning for home. He won by identical margin in 1:52.3,  Grab Your Keys chased from the pocket, with Andy Roo (Brent Holland), Corky Baran (Eric Goodell) and Lucky Man (Cat Manzi) grabbing the minor awards

For Silent Swing, a millionaire 10-year-old Northern Luck gelding co-owned by (trainer) Mark Ford and David Shea, he returned $3.70 for his second win in as many 2012 starts.  The exacta paid $34, with the triple returning $82.

Yonkers resumes its usual five-night-per-week (Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday) next week. First post for all programs remains at 7:10 PM. Evening simulcasting accompanies all live programs, with afternoon simulcasting available around the NYRA schedule.
