Lon - William 'Bill' James Passes

William ‘Bill’ James, a longtime horseman from London, Ontario, passed away this past Saturday at the University Hospital in London. He was 87.

James raced a large stable for several years on the OJC circuit and one of his better known horses was the $300,000 winner Scorpion. After his retirement from training in 1999 he maintained his interest in the sport and was a familiar figure at qualifying races at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

He is survived by his wife Peggy and daughter Sharon Cowling and her husband Ed. Visitation will take place tomorrow (January 24) at the Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel, 1997 Dundas Street East, London from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m.
