East Rutherford, NJ - Saturday
night's feature at The Meadowlands is the sixth race, a $20,000 Preferred pace
with Mel Mara tabbed as the morning line choice in the field of seven.
Mel Mara has a win and a second in
his pair of 2017 starts, losing a close photo in 1:48.2 his most recent race
over the mile oval. He's being pointed toward the summer's major
stakes after a successful 2016 season where he earned nearly a quarter million
dollars and equaled the older pacing horse world record of 1:47 for owners
Robert Cooper, Jr and J & T Silva. Dylan Davis trains and Corey Callahan
drives Mel Mara.
The competition is led by Rockeyed
Optimist (Andy Miller) and Odds On Equuleus (Vinny Ginsberg), both of whom have
won their last couple of starts and bring strong credentials to the party.
Also featured will be the simulcast
of the North America Cup card from Mohawk Racetrack that includes many of the
eligible horses for the Meadowlands Pace coming up on July 15 and other marquee
stakes.
It's an eleven race program that
gets underway at 7:15 p.m.
The Meadowlands will offer a
handicapping contest for the young horseplayer on June 24 with a prize pool of
$5,000. There is no entry fee and sign ups will be accepted until 7:00 p.m. at
Victory Terrace. Contact Rachel Ryan at RaRyan@PlayMeadowlands.com to
register or further details.
