Jenny Lake wins Vernon Downs feature.

Jenny Lake (Leon Bailey) captures the $5,200 featured trot at Vernon Downs on Thursday (July 30).

Jenny Lake ($3.60) and Spoiler Alert (Brett Crawford) both charged out of the gate together going side side all the way to the first turn.  Spoiler Alert cleared and led to the first quarter in :26.3.  He would be first to the half in :55.1.  Jenny Lake continued to follow in the pocket  and as they went around the final turn she made her move.  Spoiler Alert held a short lead to three-quarters in 1:24.4.

As they made the turn for home Jenny Lake took control.  Gettin Serious (Roman Lopez) came flying down the stretch and became the major danger.  Jenny Lake had plenty in the tank and won easily in 1:54.4.  Gettin Serious had to settle for second.  Winning Princess (Jennifer Lappe) came up to get third.

Jenny Lake is a 4-year-old mare by RC Royalty.  Trained by Paul Minckler for owners Ed Naniotka Jr. and Carol Namiotka.  It was her fourth win this season.  She now owns 12 career victories.

Jimmy Whittemore drove three winners on the card to give him 24 on the season.  That leaves him one behind leading driver Howard Parker (25).  Leon Bailey had a driving double giving him 18 wins and third place on the list.  John MacDonald follows next with 12 tallies.

Miriam Toland at age 75 does it again.

The veteran used a late charge from Fleetwood Hall (Deweycheatumnhowe) to squeak  by in between horses to win a three-way photo on the last race of the day.  To see her you would think she was 40 years old.  She always keeps herself in tip top shape.  You can't help but smile to see her in the winner's circle!

Vernon Downs returns to live racing with a 12-race card on Saturday (August 1) starting at 3 p.m.
