YONKERS MAKES HISTORY SUNDAY AFTERNOON…WE’RE PRETTY SURE

BY FRANK DRUCKER, Publicity Director, Empire City @ Yonkers Raceway

YONKERS, NY, Wednesday, March 8, 2017—For everything that’s happened during Yonkers Raceway’s storied century-plus history, this Sunday afternoon (March 12) offers something never before seen in Westchester.

Surmised by the author and confirmed (+/- the acceptable margin of error) by track legends Bob (OUTP) Miecuna and stat savant Fred Opper, Yonkers is presenting its first-ever all trot program.

Eleven races (first post 12:30 PM), eleven trots, including seven (races 3 through 9) of the ‘French’ theme, featuring overflow fields at the mile-and-one-quarter distance.

The card begins with the $50,000 Open, a blind-draw get-together including Hemi Seelster (Jason Bartlett, post 7), Springbank Sam N (Jordan Stratton, post 2) and lone lass Allerage Star (Andy Miller, post 8), who finished 1-2-3 in last week’s handicapped event.

Sunday’s matinee card also features the return of the ‘New York, New York Double,’ with the third race from Aqueduct (post time 2:20 PM) and the sixth from Yonkers (post time 2:55 PM). Program pages for this wager shall be sent when available.

Going off-topic for a moment, everyone on this side of the river is deeply saddened to learn of Sam McKee’s passing. He was as good and good-natured a person as anyone would hope to meet.
