M1 - Callahan and Miller hit "Slams" at Big M

Andy Miller stole the night early on at the Meadowlands on Saturday winning four races on the card, included the “Dash For The Notes Final” for C-2 Pacers with Arezzo Hanover.  Making the lead in 27.2, Arezzo Hanover rebuffed an early challenge from long-shot Line Officer blazing through a 54.1 half mile.  Hurrikane Anthony was tracking in the pocket through three-quarter of 1:22.2 but couldn’t keep pace in the stretch.  Arezzo Hanover held off the belated rally from Corky Baran to score in 1:51.2.  He is trained by Nick Surick for the J L Benson Stables Inc.

Corey Callahan put together a natural hat trick covering races 9,10 and 11 including a sterling rally from Domethatagain in The Hudson River Prep.  He won the night cap as well to make it another grand slam.  Domethatagain was far back at the half-mile pole, which was reached in 55-, but put together an eye-opening back-half to chase down Mr. Dennis and Take It Back Terry to win going away in 1:50.2.  Domethatagain is trained by Erv Miller and owned by the Mystical Marker Farms LLC along with Peggy Hood and Paymaq Racing.

In the $20,000 C-1 final, Digital Z Tam rewarded his sparse legion of backers with a 23-1 score, capitalizing on a smart steer by trainer/driver Pat Lachance.  Lachance used the quick early foot of his charge to secure a forward position from post nine, then burst through to open a considerable lead in the stretch.  The wire arrived just in time, as Fantaddy's late rally fell just a nose short in 1:51.1.

The Z Tam Stables, LLC of New York City owns the career winner of over $650,000.

Several long-shots on the night led to large payouts in the popular guaranteed pools at The Meadowlands.  The combination of Transcending ($18.20) and Pence Hanover ($67.00) sparked a pick 5 payout of $7,934.70 for a $.50 cent wager.  Pence Hanover also kicked off the Early Pick 4 which returned $3,043.70.  The Late Pick 4, which had a pool of $97,684, featured a win from Digital Z Tam in the “Dash For The C Notes” C-1 Final, who returned $48.20 to win.  That Pick 4 returned $2,869.90.

Despite Kentucky Derby prep races and the NCAA Men’s Final Four, the Meadowlands still not only hit $3 Million, but showed a remarkable 49 percent increase over the same Saturday in 2012.  In fact the total handle of $3,086,391 was $1,014,001 more than one year ago.  In addition, the on-track handle showed an increase of 22 percent.

Racing resumes on Friday with the second round of The Night Stlyes. Post time is 7:15 P.M.
