Freshmen Lady Pacers To Battle At Buffalo Raceway

by Brian J. Mazurek, for Buffalo Raceway

HAMBURG, N.Y. --- The 2-year-old filly pacers in the New York Sire Stakes have just one day of competition under their belts this season, that coming on July 7 at Vernon Downs when four brackets were run. But the action will heat up again for the freshmen females at Buffalo Raceway on Sunday afternoon (July 16) with all previous division winners entered.

The third division, scheduled for the fifth race, is loaded as three of the four winners will square off for a purse of $35,000 (approx.). Twin B Peaches, Walk From Heaven and Betterthangraduate all captured their respective divisions at Vernon. The other winner, Ubettergo Go, will compete in the second leg, scheduled for the third race on the 11-race card that is set to begin at 12:30 p.m.

Twin B Peaches (Betterthancheddar-Beach Bound) is a perfect 2-for-2 in her young pari-mutuel career including an eye-opening 1:52.0 victory at Vernon on July 7th. This $30,000 Harrisburg sale mare is the 3-to-1 morning line choice for Jody Jamieson after drawing the seven post.

Walk From Heaven (Rock N Roll Heaven-Walk Of Shame) got three three spot and is fresh off a Sire Stakes win in 1:53.2 at Vernon Downs. Brett Miller is slated to steer the 4-to-1 choice.

Betterthangraduate (Betterthancheddar-Western Graduate) went 1:55.0 in her Sire Stakes debut at Vernon and will have the services of Jim Morrill Jr. from the five post. She is a $52,000 purchase last year at the Harrisburg Sales.

Others in the division include Silk Reed (John Cummings Jr.), Heaven's Diva (Drew Monti), Wisdom Tree (Dan Rawlings) and Princess Dalia (Marcus Miller).

The Sire Stakes will kick off in the second race with seven damsels looking to get into the win column for the first time. There are two high-priced pacers seeking the photo opportunity as Kim's The Best, a $50,000 purchase at the Lexington Sales and Checkered Past, a $75,000 buy at the Harrisburg Sales. They'll start from the one and two posts respectively with Jamieson handling Kim's The Best (Betterthancheddar-Kim's Caper) and Checkered Past (American Ideal-Character Flaw) having Cummings Jr. in control.

The remainder of the field includes Sand Artist (Marcus Miller), Another Lawsuit (Morrill Jr.), Line Dancer (Brett Miller) and Make Music K (Drew Monti).

Ubettergo Go (Art Major-Ubetterthink) is the 2-to-1 early choice in the other Sire Stakes race, scheduled as the third event on the program. She romped to a four length win in the Sire Stakes at Vernon Downs in 1:53.0 and will have Jamieson, who posted a four-bagger Wednesday night at Buffalo Raceway, in the sulky. But Ubettergo Go will be facing some stiff and high-priced competition on Sunday.

Classy Chris (Art Major Rocknroll Wishes) brought $75,000 in the Harrisburg Sales, American Myth garnered $65,000 and Better Speed (Betterthancheddar-Misty Speed) $50,000 at Lexington. Classy Chris will have Morrill Jr. in the bike, American Myth (American Ideal-Mythical) will be steered by Rawlings and Better Speed gets Brett Miller.

Also in the race are The Band K (Monti), Azreal As It Gets (Lems) and Pleasant Beauty (Marcus Miller).

There will also be racing in both the Excelsior A and B Series.
