Can I Say sets Track Record at Monticello Raceway

By Shawn Wiles

On Wednesday afternoon May 3, at Monticello Raceway, Can I Say set a new track record for Aged Trotting Mares, setting the new stanza of 1:56.3, eclipsing the prior record held by Scottish Cross of 1:56.4.  The out of town invader shows recent starts at Saratoga Raceway, Pocono Downs, Yonkers and Flamboro Downs. The 8 year old daughter of Fourth and One (Valley Victory – Divineintervention) left from post position 2 and cut the mile through fractions of 28:2, 58.3 1:27 and tripped the teletimer in 1:56.3, more impressive than the record itself  was the manner in which she won, as the winning margin was 11 lengths. The brown mare is trained by Douglas Berkeley for owners Terry & Clarence Devos and James Whelan and was driven by Bruce Aldrich Jr.
