MR - JIMMY MAROHN, JR. HAS A FIVE-BAGGER—TRAINER DANNY GILL UNDERGOES TRIPLE BY-PASS SURGERY

Jimmy Marohn, Jr. put on a driving clinic at Monticello Raceway on Thursday afternoon, April 25th when he reined five winners on the 10-race card.

Marohn, the defending driving champion here at the Mighty M,started his  day winning both ends of the early double.

He scored with Allan Cisco Stable’s trotter La Hollywood ($3.40) in a time of  2:03.3 in the first race, and then came back to cop the second behind Ed Hall’s first time Mighty M starter, Tom Riddle ($5.20) in a 1:57.4 clocking.

He then won the fourth race with Ed and James Hall’s 4-year-old Kadabra trotter, Bell Kat Kadab ($4.70) in 2:01.1.

A  1:59.1 triumph with Ed Hall’s with Rusty’s Flying ($5.70)  in 1:59.1 gave young Marohn his fourth driving victory on the card and he capped his afternoon when he won with Dr. Howard (Doc) Gill’s Miss Marla  ($5.70) in 2:01.3.

“I’m really pleased with the way things worked out today,” Marohn said from the paddock after the racing program had finished.”When I studied the program I figured I had a good chance in winning three( races) but  the dice were rolling my way this time.”

When asked  if any of the winners impressed him Marohn quickly added: “Tom Riddle , who won the second race impressed me real good. He’s big and green but he had a lot of pace at the wire.”

Marohn’s five victories today matched to same daily output he had earlier this season.

Three of his winners, the ones  owned by the Hall’s of Lebanon, Ct, are from the powerful Danny Gill barn. Gill won top training honors here last year and is currently the meet’s leading trainer again this season.

Unfortunately—or maybe fortunately—Gill underwent triple bypass surgery today at Westchester Medical in Valhalla, NY  and is reportedly doing well.
