EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Driver Jim Marohn Jr.
guided four winners at the Meadowlands Saturday night as the track brought the
curtain down on its abbreviated four-card September meeting.
Marohn got rolling right at the start of
the night, piloting O U Sexy Guy ($4.80 to win, 1:56) to victory lane in the
first race conditioned pace. Mac’s Jackpot ($3.20, lifetime-best 1:51.4), fresh
off a pair of mediocre efforts in the Metro at Mohawk, flexed his class muscles
to score in the fifth race, a division of the Kindergarten Classic for
2-year-old colts and geldings on the pace.
The 34-year-old’s third victory came
behind El Bloombito ($6.00, 1:50.2) in another conditioned event in race nine
before Marohn got his fourth score in the 13th and final with
Carmen’s Best ($4.20, 1:51.2). Marohn drove five favorites on the program and
won with four.
A CLOSE SECOND: Brett Miller won three
races on the program while Vincent Ginsburg and Joe Bongiorno had two apiece.
SCINTILLATING SCORE: Stay Up Late ($3.00,
1:50.1) was a powerhouse 3¾-length winner in the $17,500 Dash For The “G” Notes
on the pace. The 5-year-old son of Artiscape cut out all of the fractions –
reaching the half in a sizzling :53.3 while pressured – and won easily for a
second straight start for driver William Mann and trainer Al Annunziata.
THE RUNNERS ARE COMING: Thoroughbred turf racing
