Kirby’s name is well known at Delaware’s Harrington Raceway, where the
43-year-old is currently the top driver.
But at the Meadowlands, his name is not
on the tip of regular patron’s tongues. Now, maybe it will be.
With many of the frontline Big M drivers
at Mohawk Raceway for a stakes-laden program, Kirby won four times on the
Meadowlands 13-race card Saturday night.
Kirby got his night going in the fifth
race with Jenny’s Terror ($13.60 to win, 1:53.1), who scored in the third leg
of the Kindergarten Classic for 2-year-old pacing fillies. Mister Truth ($6.80,
1:51) took the eighth race before Kirby’s fans made a score with Grave Dancer
($26.80, 1:52) in the 10th. Kirby completed his ‘grand slam’ with
Show Me Up ($15.40, 1:53) in the 12th.
COUGAR CRUSHES: Cougar Bait ($2.60,
1:52.4) impressed taking one of two division of the Kindergarten Classic for
2-year-old colts and geldings on the pace, making an aggressive move to the
lead at the three-eighths before registering a safe ¾-length victory over
Northwest Yankee. … Andy Miller won three times on the card, giving him seven
winners over the weekend at the Big M. … Racing resumes at the Meadowlands
Friday at 7:15 p.m.
