Horses Wanted For Special New Year's Eve Races In London

London, December 14, 2011 -- The Raceway At The Western Fair District plans to host a pair of races for the senior citizens of the equine set as part of its busy New Year’s Eve program.

A special $6,000 claiming trot and pace – dubbed the ‘Old Lang Syne’ trot and pace - will be carded that night and the oldest eight horses in each class that enter will be accepted.

There are many classy veterans still plying their trade weekly at the London oval. Among them is 13-year-old CR Bellman, who recently gave local trainer Larry Fitzsimmons the 1,000th training win of his career.

Also still going strong is 14-year-old Eldorado Max. He will make the final start of his career on December 31st as he reaches the mandatory retirement age for a Standardbred. He is expected among the starters and will be honoured trackside following the race.

Anyone interested in entering is asked to call the Western Fair District Race office at 519-482-5270.

Post time for the New Year’s Eve program is 7:05 p.m. and seating in the dining room is still available. For reservations, call 519-438-7203 (ext. 252).

There will also be live racing on Boxing Day, December 26, with a special post time of 1:15 p.m. The annual Boxing Day Brunch will be offered that day at the Top Of The Fair dining room.
