M1 - Meadowlands Pace Elims Set For Saturday Night

Sweet Lou and Think Out Loud are among the 16 colts and geldings in pursuit of the Meadowlands Pace, the track’s signature event for 3-year-old pacers.

A pair of $50,000 eliminations on Saturday, July 7 will decide the field for the $600,000 final on Saturday, July 14, with the top five in each elim earning a spot on the gate.  Elimination winners will pick their posts in the final.

Sweet Lou was installed the 9-5 morning line favorite from post two in the first elim, race five.  Pennsylvania-based reinsman Dave Palone will drive the colt.  The winner of three of four starts this year and 13 of 16 lifetime enters the Pace off a disappointing loss as the odds-on favorite in Canada’s $1.5 million North America Cup on June 16 at Mohawk.  Ron Burke trained Sweet Lou in 1:49 over the Meadowlands track on June 30 in preparation for the Pace.

North America Cup winner Thinking Out Loud is rated as the slight 5-2 choice in the second Pace elim, race six, for the team of trainer Bob McIntosh and driver Randy Waples.  Thinking Out Loud rallied three-wide to win the North America Cup in a sizzling 1:47.4.  The colt has a record of four wins in six starts this season.  He has never been off the board in 10 career starts.

Post time for the elims card is 7 p.m.  Festivities include live music by Five Stone and the nightly Horse Play Car Giveaway, which will benefit the Do-Good House, a New Jersey-based non-profit dedicated to giving scholarships to deserving students in need of financial assistance.
