NYSS sophomore trotting fillies invade Vernon Downs Thursday.

Barn Bella (Jeff Gregory) is the 9-5 morning line favorite for New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) featuring sophomore trotting fillies on Thursday (August 10).

Barn Bella (Conway Hall),  is owned by the Purple Haze Stables, with Nancy and trainer Steve Pratt.  She has won nine of ten starts in 2017.     She has NYSS victories this year at Tioga Downs ($40,600), Monticello ($59,100), Saratoga ($91,550), and Yonkers ($85,250).  Her biggest win this year was the Empire Breeders Classic ($228,250) at Vernon Downs on June 18.  She would equal the track record for 3 year-old trotting fillies (1:51.3).  This is her first trip back to the miracle mile since that big win.

Celebrity Ruth (Jason Bartlett), will be her top rival, as the 2-1 second choice.  Celebrity Ruth (Archangel), has eight lifetime starts, all as a 3 year-old. Owned by White Birch Farm and trained by Trond Smedshammer, she has won four times with four seconds.  She has NYSS wins at Tioga Downs ($40,600),  Monticello ($59,100), and Yonkers ($85,250).  She would finish second to Barn Bella at the Empire Breeders Classic and at Saratoga (NYSS).

Maewegonow (Charlie Norris) is the third choice at 5-1.  She has won two times as a three year-old, including a leg of the NYSS at Tioga Downs ($40,600).  Maewegonow (Deweycheatumnhowe) is owned by Carrie Norris, G&B Racing, Acadia Farms and trained by Charlie Norris.

Post time for the 11 race card at Vernon Downs is 6:45.  It is also Corntastic weekend at the miracle mile, with free grilled corn on August 10-12 at the track.
