SBOANJ - SARANDON BLUE CHIP CAPTURES $150,000 MISS NEW JERSEY

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – August 4, 2012 – Sarandon Blue Chip rallied for a three and a half-length victory in 1:50.1, capturing the 29th edition of the $150,000 Thomas D’Altrui Miss New Jersey on Saturday afternoon, August 4, 2012 at the Meadowlands.

Sarandon Blue Chip [$9.00, $4.80, $4.00], unraced at two, held off longshot Mikeleh [$32.60, $14.60] and Pirouette Hanover [$4.80] who was four and a half lengths back in third.  All three top finishers are daughters of Western Ideal.

The Miss New Jersey is restricted to New Jersey-sired three-year-old fillies and is sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey.

Sarandon Blue Chip, driven by David Miller and trained by Casie Coleman, was a tick off the 1:50 stakes record set by Put On A Show in 2010.

“We were first over, and I was concerned that I might have moved her too soon,” said Miller.  “She was awfully game.  She raced tremendous.”

The fourth-race victory improved Sarandon Blue Chip’s record to three wins and two seconds in eight tries.  Her earnings now sit at $159,030 for co-owners Casie Coleman and Tom Hill of Lancashire, United Kingdom

PUT ON A SHOW SETS 1:47.3 WORLD RECORD IN LADY LIBERTY

Put On A Show [$9.00, 5.20, 3.40] was also busy on this year’s Hambletonian Day Card, winning the second race, the $253,700 Lady Liberty, pacing a world record 1:47.3, the fastest mile for a pacing mare.

The fractions were 26.1 to the quarter, 53.2 to the half, 1:20.3 to the three quarters with a final panel in 26.4 seconds.

Put On A Show lowered the record of 1:48.1 previously shared by My Little Dragon and Anndrovette.

The five-year-old New Jersey-sired daughter of Rocknroll Hanover did not race in 2011.

“She’s just an amazing mare,” said winning driver Jody Jamieson.  “She put on a show again.

“I think it’s an amazing accomplishment for her to finally have the world record in her name,” Jamieson added.  “It’s the greatest mare to ever look through a bridle.  It’s an amazing experience just to get to drive her.”

Put On A Show is trained by Chris Ryder, racing for Craig Henderson of Chicago, IL and Richard and Joanne Young of Coconut Creek, FL.

It was a half-length back to Rebeka Bayama [$29.00, 7.60] in second and three-quarters of a length to Anndrovette [$3.20] in third.

“It felt like Timmy (Tetrick with Anndrovette) was wanting the lead and trying to dictate, just like he did at Mohawk [in the Roses Are Red] and got the better of us all,” Jamieson noted.  “I just felt like if I was closer to her I would have a better shot.  She just did what she does.  She’s a world champion mare.”

Put On A Show was the Dan Patch Award winner as the sport’s best three-year-old filly pacer in 2010 when she also won the Miss New Jersey.

She has won 27 of 39 career races and eight of 14 this year.  She has earned $2.2 million lifetime.

“We saw some bumps (in the road) in some of the races this year, but we always thought that if she was close enough, that last quarter-mile, nobody can do what she does,” Joanne Young said. “She proved it today.”

JERSEYLICIOUS SCORES IN SWEETHEART FINAL

New Jersey breeding also accounted for the winner of the $268,300 Sweetheart for two-year-old pacing fillies.

Jerseylicious [$20.00, 5.20, 3.00], a daughter of Western Ideal, was a neck winner over Nikki Beach [$2.40, $2.10].  It was two and a quarter lengths back to Cult Status [$2.60] in third.

“I was a little worried in the first turn,” said Corey Callahan, the driver of Jerseylicious.  “She got a little rough on me.  Brian [Sears with Nikki Beach] was the one I wanted to follow all along, and it worked out great.  She’s a very well-mannered filly.  She’s got, like I said, terrific manners; she’s easy to drive.

The Wayne Givens trainee picked up her first win in her fourth start with two seconds and one third.  The victory pushed her earnings to $147,856.
