Tioga Downs hosted three divisions of the New York Sire Stake for 2-year-old pacing fillies on Monday (July 22).
Movie Town (Tyler Buter) comes flying late to steal the $34,866 first division.
Coconut Beach (Marcus Miller) controlled the early fractions. She hit the first quarter in :28.0 and the half in :58.4. Lolas Gold (Dexter Dunn) went first-over and pressured Coconut as they hit three-quarters in 1:27.1. As they hit the stretch Roll With Angel went three-wide to take a short lead in mid-stretch.
Movie Town ($10.60), who is owned by the Bay Pond Racing Stable and trained by Jeffrey Stafford, hit the stretch like he had a rocketwas strapped to her and blew right by to win in 1:56.2. Roll With Angel had to settle for second as Coconut Beach held on for third.
Movie Town is a 2-year-old filly by American Ideal-New Hollywood. It was her first career win.
So Rude (Matt Kakaley) captured the $35.566 second division.
Merga Hanover (Yannick Gingras) took the lead hitting the first quarter in :26.4. Galleria Gal (Dexter Dunn) took control just before going past the stands for the first time. She hit the half first in :56.0 and was first to three-quarters in 1:24.2. Racine Belle (Jason Bartlett) went first-over and challenged Galleria Girl around the final turn. Racine Belle then took over at the top of the stretch.
So Rude ($7.00), who is trained by Scott Di Domenico for owners Geoffrey Lyons and Glenn Goller, was second-over as they went around the last turn. As they reached the stretch she would slingshot right on by to win in a lifetime best of 1:53.3. Merga Hanover came up late to finish second. Racine Belle held on for third.
So Rude is a 2-year-old filly by So Surreal-I Am A Snob. It was her second career win in four lifetime starts.
Turnthefrownaround (Dexter Dunn) is victorious in the $35,566 third division.
Cash Roll (Scott Zeron) led to the first quarter in :27.2. Tipperary Hill (Wally Hennessey) went on by at the top of the stretch. Cash Roll then re-claimed the lead with a lap to go. She led the way to the half in :57.1 and to three-quarters in 1:24.3.
Turnthefrownaround ($7.90), who is owned by Craig Henderson and trained by Chris Ryder, went first-over before the three-quarter mark. She took the lead at the top of the stretch and breezed home to win her first career race in 1:53.3. Hidden Cove (Marcus Miller) was second best. Hen Party (Yannick Gingras) was third.
Turnthefrowaround is a 2-year-old filly by Roll With Joe-Knockout Pout.
Wally Hennessey drove five winners on the day. He got his wins with Believe In Angels ($10.20), Americanprimetime ($4.60), Kitty Hoyne ($6.70), Lady Boss ($2.80), and Lilly Hammer ($4.30). Dexter Dunn recorded four winners on the day. His other wins came with Lookatmyart ($5.90), Dragon Roll ($9.20), and Herecomesmagotta.
The will be no live racing this Friday (July 26) because of the George Thoroughgood concert. Live racing returns to Tioga Downs on Saturday (July 27) starting at 6:15 p.m.
