Lex1 - Tattersall’s Divisions Highlight Stakes Filled Card

LEXINGTON, KY— Saturday at The Red Mile attracted some of the country’s finest pacers in the $222,000 Glen Garnsey Memorial Tattersalls Pace, $347,200 International Stallion Stakes and the $510,300 Lis Mara Tattersalls Pace.

Romantic Moment Holds Off Foes in Garnsey Memorial

Romantic Moment made a quarter brush to the lead and took the field around the Lexington oval to win the first division of the $222,000 Glen Garnsey Memorial Tattersalls Pace in 1:50.3.

Destiny’s Chance fired off the gate and took the top banking into the first turn, with Romantic Moment in second and Ramalama was back in third. Romantic Moment came first over just by the eighth pole and cleared the top by the quarter in :28.3. Romantic Moment was left unchallenged through a :56.3 (:28) half-mile.

Sarandon Blue Chip came first over from fifth rolling around the far turn. Big Mcdeal tracked her cover, but Sarandon Blue Chip proved to be dead cover. Romantic Moment was still on the lead at three-quarters in 1:24 (:27.2).

Destiny’s Chance found room to pace inside of Romantic Moment turning for home. Rockaround Sue was riding the pylons and Ramalama edged out of the pocket, three wide and chasing Romantic Moment. The three battled behind a hand-driven Romantic Moment entering the sixteenth pole. Gingras was home free and guided Romantic Moment to a 1:50.3 (:26.3) mile victory. Destiny’s Chance was second, Rockaround Sue was third and Ramalama was fourth.

Romantic Moment ($2.40) is by American Ideal, out of the mare Time N Again by Jate Lobell. She is owned by Brittany Farms, trained by Jimmy Takter and Yannick Gingras was in the bike.

“I thought she was the best last week too, but sometimes in short fields, the easiest place to race is on the front. Last week, I tried that but I ended up going through fast fractions and I was first over. She had plenty left into the stretch; I never even started her up,” driver Yannick Gingras said.

Conservative Trip Pays Off for Economy Terror 

Economy Terror paced a pocket trip behind tempo-setter American Jewel to win the second division of Tattersalls in 1:50.

Economy Terror took the lead, with Darena Hanover in second and Moonlit Dragon was in third. Economy Terror led at the quarter in :27.3. American Jewel pulled the pocket and cleared the lead passing the three-eighths. Economy Terror backed into second and Darena Hanover was in third. Marty Party came first over and the half in :55.4 (:28.1).

Shelliscape came second over and Moonlit Dragon was third over into the far turn. American Jewel was still in front at three-quarters in 1:23.1 (:27.2). Economy Terror came up the pylons turning for home. Darena Hanover was looking for room and Shelliscape began to surge off cover. Economy Terror got to the lead in the sixteenth pole and held off the challenges of Shelliscape and American Jewel. American Jewel was second, Shelliscape was third and Marty Party finished fourth. The mile was timed in 1:50 (:26.4).

Economy Terror ($13) is by Western Terror, out of the mare Mattatonic by Matt’s Scooter. She is owned by Chuck Pompey, Howard Taylor and Edwin Gold, trained by Chris Oakes and Dave Palone was in the bike.


Rivals ‘Fooled’ by Fool Me Once

Fool Me Once returned to The Red Mile after his Bluegrass victory to defeat public choice Rockin Amadeus in the first division of the International Stallion Stakes for two-year-old colt pacers in 1:51.3.

Modern Cruiser took the lead, with Muscle Beachboy in second and Rockin Amadeus in third. Rockin Amadeus came first over passed the eighth pole and cleared the top at the quarter in :26.4. Fool Me Once came to the outside and challenged Rockin Amadeus for the lead at the three-eighths. He cleared the top at the half in :54.1 (:27.2).

Into the far turn, Fool Me Once was on top. Rockin Amadeus was in second and Modern Cruiser was third. Twilight Bonfire was progressing first over, supplying cover to Real Rocker and Clint Westwood. Fool Me Once was unchallenged at three-quarters in 1:24.1 (:30).

Twilight Bonfire came up to Pierce’s wheel at the top of the stretch. Rockin Amadeus was trying to find room at the inside and Modern Cruiser angled off the cones with no room to pace. Clint Westwood was rallying off cover late. Fool Me Once held on to command as Twilight Bonfire and Modern Cruiser came in with one final lunge, but it wasn’t enough to catch Fool Me Once. Twilight Bonfire was second, Modern Cruiser was third and Rockin Amadeus was fourth. Fool Me Once paced the mile in 1:51.3 (:27.2).

Fool Me Once ($6.20) is by Art Major, out of the mare Fool That I Am by Jenna’s Beach Boy. He is owned by Mark Austin Stables and Daniel Smith, trained by Mark Austin and was driven to victory by Ron Pierce.

“I had to use him quite hard to get to the top, I gave him a better breather around the far turn and he fought game,” driver Ron Pierce said.


Odds On Equuleus Bears Challenge in Final Strides

After a controversial disqualification in the Bluegrass a week ago, Odds On Equuleus returned to the winner’s circle in the second division of the International Stallion Stakes in 1:50.

Doctor Butch took the lead, with Odds On Equuleus in the pocket and Our Dragon King in third. Doctor Butch led the field by the quarter in :27.2. Odds On Equuleus made a brush to the lead passing the three-eighths pole. Dress The Part angled to the outside at the half-mile in :55 (:27.3).

Dress The Part applied pressure to Odds On Equuleus approaching three-quarters. Teresa’s Beach was tracking the live cover and Doctor Butch was locked at the pylons. Odds On Equuleus was holding off Dress The Part at three-quarters in 1:23.3 (:28.3).

Into the stretch, Dress The Part gave way to Odds On Equuleus. Doctor Butch found room at the pylons and began surging up the cones. Odds On Equuleus sped right up and held off his challenge to win the second division of the International Stallion Stakes in 1:50 (:26.2). Doctor Butch was second, Dress The Part was third and Wake Up Peter rallied from the back to finish fourth.

Odds On Equuleus ($3) is by Art Major, out of the mare Latte Lady by Jenna’s Beach Boy. He is owned by Odds On Racing, trained by Robin Schadt and John Campbell was in the bike.


Captaintreacherous Wins in Photo

Captaintreacherous made a quarter move to the lead and held off a stretch rally from Dedi’s Dragon to win the third division of the International Stallion Stakes in 1:50.3.

Dedi’s Dragon took the lead, with Hail The Taxi in second and Captaintreacherous third. Captaintreacherous came first over by the quarter in :28. Clearing at the three-eighths, Captaintreacherous was unchallenged through a :55.2 (:27.2) half-mile.

Good Day Mate was flushed out from fourth by Resistance Futile into the far turn. Resistance Futile drifted three wide off cover and lost ground. Captaintreacherous was holding onto the lead at three-quarters in 1:23.1 (:27.4).

Good Day Mate applied pressure at the top of the stretch. Dedi’s Dragon edged to the outside and began to rally, while Hail The Taxi was closing three wide. Dedi’s Dragon lunged after Captaintreacherous, but Captaintreacherous held on by a nose to win. Dedi’s Dragon was second, Hail The Taxi was third and Good Day Mate was fourth.

Captaintreacherous ($2.40) is by Somebeachsomewhere, out of the mare Worldly Treasure by Artsplace. He is owned by Brittany Farms, Marvin Katz and Joe Sbrocco, trained by Tony Alagna and Tim Tetrick was in the sulky.


Apprentice Hanover Flys by Rivals to Win

After breaking in the Bluegrass last week, Apprentice Hanover got a perfect second over trip to win the International Stallion Stake in 1:50.3.

Johny Rock took the lead, with Urbanite Hanover in second Artist Night was in third. Johny Rock took them by the quarter in :27.2. Down the backstretch, My One Tru Desire was flushed first over, supplying cover to Apprentice Hanover and Sir Richard Z Tam. Urbanite Hanover popped the pocket at the half in :55.2 (:28).

Urbanite Hanover was parked into the far turn. Apprentice Hanover was ready to fan three wide and Sir Richard Z Tam needed room to pace. Johny Rock had a narrow lead at three-quarters in 1:22.4 (:27.2).

Urbanite Hanover took over the lead into the stretch. Apprentice Hanover began to rally off cover and paced right on by Urbanite Hanover. Artist Night came from mid-pack and was flying up the pylons. Apprentice Hanover was home free and paced the mile in 1:50.3 (:27.4).

Apprentice Hanover ($4.20) is by Somebeachsomewhere, out of the mare Allamerican Nadia by Dragon’s Lair. He is owned by Bradley Grant, trained by Ben Wallace and Jody Jamieson was in the sulky.
