Gigi From Figi wins the filies & mares featured pace ($12,000) at Tioga Downs on Friday (June 21).
Truth And Liberty (Mike Simons) put up all the early fractions (:27.0, :55.1, 1:23.2).
Gigi From Figi ($4.60), who is owned by trainer Mike Deters with L. Barnett and J Spindler, followed in second the whole trip. As they reached the stretch she came flying out of the pocket. She took the lead but and dug down deep to hold off the late charge of second place finisher Marvalous Jet (Mike Merton) and third place finisher Gold Star Mysti (Corey Braden) to win in 1:52.0.
Gigi From Figi is a 5-year-old mare by Ponder. It was her seventh win this season. She now owns 16 career victories.
Fern Paquet Jr. drove three winners on the night. He got his wins with Workin For Peanuts ($8.30), Studio City ($4.20), and Check Mach ($7.40).
Mike Merton and Wally Hennessey each have drove 32 winners to lead all drivers. Jim Taggart Jr is currently in third pace with 18 victories. Fern Paquet Jr (17), and Andy Santeramo (16),round out the top five.
Tioga Downs returns to live racing with a 10 race card on Saturday (June 22) with a 10 race card starting at 6:15 p.m.
