YONKERS, NY, Tuesday, November 17,
2015—Yonkers Raceway has announced the 2016 Yonkers International Trot is set
for Saturday afternoon, Oct. 15.
The are a handful of similarities to the
race’s revival, held last month and won by Norway’s Papagayo E.
First is the purse – a cool million
dollars.
Second is the number of invitees – 10.
Third is the distance –
one-and-one-quarter miles.
All other pertinent information, including
first post for the card, feature race post time, accompanying stakes/invitationals
and promotions geared around the event, have yet to be worked out.
“We were very excited to bring this race
back after 20 years and even more excited to have it return in 2016,” Raceway
president Tim Rooney said. “The response was overall very positive and we
learned quite a bit, so we’re already starting to look into what we can do to
make the event even better.”
“We’re very appreciative of the interest shown in this race,” Rooney said.
“Returning our Yonkers International Trot was something we had discussed for
many years, and we feel that by confirming a 2016 date well in advance, we are
assured of attracting the world’s best trotters.
“Once again, we are grateful for the continued support of our overseas
audience, as well as our fans locally and throughout North America.”
