Valentine's Day at The Meadowlands

East Rutherford, NJ - The second leg of the Sonsam series for three and four year old pacers will head up Saturday night's program at The Meadowlands. Thirteen declarations to leg two resulted in a pair of divisions with the first carded as the second half of the Daily Double offering a contentious six-pack of pacers.

Rockeyed Optimist starts from the pole in this one and will be paired with Brett Miller for the first time, what with regular driver Tim Tetrick off to represent the USA in the World Driving Championship. Rockeyed Optimist is maturing into a solid top class performer this year for the ownership group of Anthony Perretti, Ginny Berkner, A&B Stable and Joe Battaglia, boasting a pair of "B" class wins and a rallying second in last week's Sonsam opening leg thus far in 2015. Steve Elliott trains the four-year-old son of Rocknroll Hanover.

Major Uptrend is the lone returning winner from the first leg (the other leg one winner Wiggle It Jiggleit has taken the week off) and he is a likely choice in division two, race eleven. He held off the aforementioned Rockeyed Optimist after a forwardly placed trip last week, scoring in 1:50.4 for owner Howard Taylor. Ron Burke trains and Yannick Gingras drives the Somebeachsomewhere gelding.

Saturday is of course Valentine's Day, so you might consider a delightful evening spent dining in Pink watching the racing and taking a poke at any of several guaranteed wagers throughout the program. Chief among those would be the High-5 Jackpot which is now in excess of $100,000 and we all know there is no better aphrodisiac than winning a huge amount of cash.
