FOR THE LADIES N WINS FRIDAY 35G DISTAFF HANDICAP PACE

BY FRANK DRUCKER, Publicity Director, Empire City @ Yonkers Raceway

YONKERS, NY, Friday, February 6, 2015—Favored For the Ladies N (Brian Sears, $2.80) was both patient and potent, handily winning Yonkers Raceway’s $35,000 featured Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace.

Making her stateside small-track debut, For the Ladies N won the draw but had no designs about flaunting it. She was more than happy to get away third, behind Handsoffmycookie (Dan Dube) and Mach a Wish (Mark MacDonald). After a :27.4 opening quarter mile and :56.4 intermission, the people’s preference made her move.

She edged to the lead passing the 1:24.4 three-quarters, widening to 2½ lengths into the lane. For the Ladies N never had an issue for the balance, winning by 2¾ lengths 1:52.4. Handsoffmycookie chased and held second, with Momma Rock (Jason Bartlett), Mach a Wish and Sir Jillian Z Tam completing the cashers.

For “Ladies,” a 6-year-old Down Under daughter of Jereme’s Jet trained by Peter Tritton for owner Harry von Knoblauch, it was her second win in as four seasonal starts. The exacta paid $15.20, with the triple returning $66.
The Raceway’s live season continues Saturday night (post time 7:10 PM). After that, it’s Monday (7:10 PM), a French-centric Tuesday (1 PM), then Thursday through Saturday (all at 7:10 PM). Note the next Sunday matinee is Feb. 22 (post time TBA). Evening simulcasting accompanies all night programs, with afternoon simulcasting available daily (all provided Mother Nature cooperates).
