Long Shots Rule The Night At Buffalo Raceway

by Brian J. Mazurek, for Buffalo Raceway

HAMBURG, N.Y. --- As the night grew longer and longer at Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday (Jan. 31), the win prices got bigger and bigger as the long shots ruled the 13-race program.

There were six double digit win prices on the evening with Stonebridge Marvel the largest as David McNeight III steered the 5-year-old gelding to a huge $82.50 victory from the rail.

Things started to get wild in the second race as Gorgeous View scored a $16.80 decision. It was then bombs away after that. Utah Beach posted a $19.20 while Summit City Turbo was next in line with a $19.60 victory. Pistopackinpiper hit the win column at $24.20, Tampa Bay Escape followed that with a $37.40 triumph while Stonebridge Marvel capped the chaos with the massive $82.50 score.

The chalk players were pleased along the way as six post time favorites found the winner's circle.

Larry Stalbaum topped the driver's statistics with three wins while Shawn Gray, Billy Davis Jr. and Ray Fisher Jr. notched doubles. Trainer Kimberly Asher had a pair of victories.

Thanks to the long shot parade, there's a $1,001 carryover in the Pick-5 Saturday night beginning in the second race. It's the first carryover of the season. The 13-race has a scheduled 6 p.m. post.
