SBOANJ - SMILIN ELI & SHARED PAST WIN IN OPENING ROUND OF NJSS

MANALAPAN, NJ – May 17, 2013 – Smilin Eli, making his career debut, and Shared Past won their respective divisions of the opening leg of the New Jersey Sire Stakes for three-year-old trotters on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Meadowlands.

In the $34,000 colts and geldings division, Smilin Eli trotted a last quarter in 26.4 to post a length and a half victory over Muscle Mountain in 1:54.4.

Tim Tetrick was at the lines of Smilin Eli, who was unraced at two and was making his three-year-old debut in the second race. 

Muscle Mountain edged his stablemate, Corky, who was third by two and a quarter after cutting most of the mile.

Smilin Eli, trained by Deshawn Minor, races for his owner-breeder Nicholas F. Cimino of Pompano Beach, FL.  He paid $5.20 to win.

All three top finishers are sons of Muscles Yankee.

In the $36,000 fillies division, Shared Past posted a lifetime mark of 1:53.4 in the co-featured sixth race. 

The daughter of Chocolatier, driven by Yannick Gingras and trained by Jonas Czernyson, was a length and a half winner over Vintage Oaks [by Muscles Yankee] and two and a quarter over Southwind Cocoa [Chocolatier] in third. 

Shared Past, bred by Fair Winds Farm of Cream Ridge, NJ and owned by WJ Donovan of Ft Lauderdale, FL, picked up her second win with four seconds and four thirds in 13 career starts.  It was her season’s debut. 

She paid $3.60 to win.
