The
Campbell brothers -- driver John and trainer Jim --continued their hot hand with Gallie Bythe
Beach blasting to a 1:50 3/5 victory in the first of two Breeders Crown eliminations
for juvenile pacing fillies. Gallie Bythe Beach a daughter of past Crown
champions Somebeachsomewhere and Galleria took control of the race with an
alert leave and never looked back.
“This
is a speed track and I wanted to be in front,” said John Campbell after the
race about his winning strategy.
Campbell
let the other drivers know from the get-go that he meant business forcing
outside leavers Southwind Silence, Ali Blue and Beach Body to take seats in
behind Gallie Bythe Beach during the :26 1/5 opening quarter.
Odds-on
favorite Shes Da Bomb and driver Jody Jamieson couldn’t match speed with the
leavers and got away fifth despite starting from the pole position. Jamieson
was still sitting looking for cover as Gallie Byethe Beach made the half in :54
2/5.
Shes
Da Bomb advanced slowly and eventually was able to flush Ali Blue and Yannick
Gingras to attack without cover.
Campbell
was still a clear leader heading into the stretch while continuing the torrid
clip. His filly responded to urging as Southwind Silence and driver Matt
Kakaley took to the passing lane to take a shot. The two fillies last met up in
the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes championship on September 15 with Southwind
Silence winning that race. Gallie Bythe Beach showed more determination this
time around keeping her rival at bay and holding safe by a head on the wire.
Beach
Body finished third with Ali Blue also advancing to the final.
Gallie
Byethe Beach was bred and is owned by Julies Siegel’s Fashion Farms LLC of New
Hope, Pa.
The
1:50 3/5 effort equaled the world mark set by Economy Terror.
Gallie
Bythe Beach returned $7.80 to win.
The two elimination
winners will draw for post positions one through five with the rest of the
finishers being placed in an open draw.
The draw will take place before the Saturday race card.
