Steve “You’re Never Too” Oldford added another driving
victory in this year’s CKG Billings Harness Driving Series when he won
with his own Garbarino in a time of 2:04.4 at the Fairfield County Fair
in Lancaster, Ohio on Thursday afternoon, October 10.
It was Oldford’s ninth Billings victory in 2013 and 16th
overall this season. It was also the third consecutive win by Garbarino
in Billings competition.
“He certainly has been good in his last few starts,” Oldford
said referring to Garbarino.
“We didn’t qualify him this year until mid-May and his
first start wasn’t until early June and although he appeared that he would have
a good 4-year-old season he came along slowly and really didn’t get good
until the late summer.”
At Lancaster , Ohio on Thursday afternoon, Garbarino
certainly had his trotting shoes on again. He started from the four-hole and at
the first quarter he had three lengths on the field. From there no
one could even get close to the trotter as Oldford kept daylight between
himself and the others.
At the third stanza Garbarino still had a three-length
lead which was opened to five lengths as the field came off the final turn.
In the lane Garbarino kept pouring it on and at the
wire Oldford’s trotter was eight- length winner over Lifelong Hanover and
driver “Chicago George” Bonomo. Littlebitofhoney finished third for Dave
“Linemaster” Ehrenberg II.
Although Grabarino, a 4-year-old altered son of Angus Hall,
came into the contest off three consecutive victories he still was sent off at
odds of 5-1 and returned a $12.60 win payoff.
The next Billings action will be a pair of trots at Saratoga
Raceway on Columbus Day, Monday, October 14.
