The
match-up that everyone was hoping for will be the main event of the Saturday
night Grand Circuit card at The Red Mile with the Tattersalls Pace serving
as the arena. Total purses for the twelve races are just shy of $1 million.
Captaintreacherous,
Vegas Vacation and Sunshine Beach have all drawn into the same division,
the first of two very contentious Tattersalls splits, each for a
purse of $215,500.
At
this point in the season, any superlative describing "The
Captain" has been used to excess. Suffice to say he continues to
impress the hard to impress and comes into Saturday's race in perhaps the best
form of his career. He's been kept fresh by the schedule set by his handlers,
manager Myron Bell and trainer Tony Alagna, and did virtually all the heavy
lifting himself (along with his regular driver Tim Tetrick) reducing his
personal best to 1:47.1 in a division of the Bluegrass stakes here last week.
His seasonal slate reads nine wins in ten starts and a million and a half
earned for Captaintreacherous Racing. He starts from post five.

Vegas
Vacation has met Captain T on several occasions and come away
feeling the sting of defeat in each. His resume includes The Little Brown
Jug in straight heats last month among his nine wins in fifteen outings and
earnings over $800,000. His camp, led by trainer Casie Coleman, are poised to
hook up with the division leader for another shot at the title. The ownership
reads West Wins Stable, Adriano Sorella, Anthony Beaton and Phyllis Saunders on
the Bettor's delight gelding and Brian Sears will be in town for the drive from
the rail on Saturday.
Adding
to the intrigue is the only horse to finish in front of Captaintreacherous this
season, Sunshine Beach, who held grimly against the Captain's long assault in
the world record Battle of Brandywine in July. He sharpened up after a few idle
weeks with a 1:48.2 / 26- win last week in Lexington. John Campbell has the
drive for trainer Mark Steacy and owners Hudson Standardbred Stable, Conrad
Leber and Diane Bertrand. He has drawn the outside post seven.
The
second Tattersalls division is a very evenly matched field of seven,
with one new shooter in New York Sires Stake final winner Fool Me Once
joining six very good horses that had one over the course last week in the
Bluegrass.
The
supporting card includes two $122,500 divisions of the Glen Garnsey Memorial
(Tattersalls for the ladies) and four splits of the International Stallion
Stakes for freshmen pacing colts. It is a power-packed offering on the
penultimate matinee card of the 2013 Grand Circuit meet at The Red Mile.
Post time is 1:00pm.
