NJ – September 18, 2013 – Former standardbred trainer John P. Coughlin, 63,
passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Hackensack Medical Center,
Hackensack, NJ.
Family and friends may call
at the Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls, NY, on Monday,
September 23, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be
held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Waterloo,
NY, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Thomas
Mull. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterloo, NY.

family is thankful for the expressions of sympathy and prayers for our brother
John’s passing,” said Tom Coughlin, John’s brother and head coach for the NY
Giants in a statement released by the team. “We all appreciate them. John was a
friend to all. He loved life, and he will be greatly missed. He
left us way too soon.”
John Coughlin was born in
Waterloo, NY on June 6, 1950 the son of the late John L. & Betty Post
Coughlin. He had been residing in New Jersey for over 20 years.
He was a horse trainer
owning and operating Coughlin’s Stables at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East
Rutherford, NJ. He was a former member of both the Standardbred Owners
Association of New York and the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of
New Jersey.
Coughin trained horses from
1991 to 2011, posting 154 victories for purses of nearly $1.5 million.
He was a member of Holy
Trinity Church in Hackensack, NJ.
