MANALAPAN,
NJ – September 14, 2013 – Luigi “Gino” Palazzolo, a trainer and driver on the
New Jersey racing circuit, passed away on September 12, 2013 at the age of
76.
Palazzolo,
born in Cinisi, Sicily, arrived in the United States with his family in
1955. He married Concetta Damiani in 1962 and moved his family from
Staten Island, NY to Colts Neck, NJ.
He
had a long career in the construction industry before pursuing his passion for
harness racing as an owner, trainer and driver. According to United
States Trotting Association records, he had 196 wins as a driver and 203 wins
as a trainer. His last victory came on September 7 with Blue Strike at
Freehold Raceway.
Visitation
will be held at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ on
Tuesday evening 7–9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of
Christian Burial Mass will be offered at The Church of the Holy Child, 4747
Amboy Road, Staten Island, on Thursday at 1 p.m. Entombment will be at
the Cemetery of the Resurrection, 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island.
He
is survived by his wife, four children, 10 grandchildren, three sisters and a
brother.
