DAVE LITTLE'S ROAD TO THE CRAWFORD FARMS MEADOWLANDS PACE WEEK 2


Captain Crunch continues to occupy the top spot in Week 2 of Dave Little's "Road to the Crawford Farms Meadowlands Pace" but keep an eye on Love Me Some Lou, who makes his debut in the poll at No. 5.

Paced his final quarter in :26.3 on the way to an easy qualifying win at the Meadowlands Saturday morning. Plan is to begin his season on May 19 in Pennsylvania Sire Stakes action. Johansson: “He trained Wednesday morning and could not have been any more perfect.”

Moved to the lead at the half but had to settle for second in his first outing of the year Saturday in a solid try. Brown: “He was good. Southwind Ozzi came from a long way back to beat him. The winner paced his back half in :53. I believe Proof will improve as the season goes on. I think these horses will go 1:48 consistently this year.”

After a stirring seasonal debut that saw him circle up from eighth at three-quarters to fly home and record a 2-length score in a lifetime best 1:50 at the Meadowlands, he took last week off. he is set to go Saturday at Pocono in a division of the Pennsylvania All-Stars. Johansson: “He’s doing very well. I expect him to do well on Saturday.”

Qualified for a second straight Monday at Woodbine Mohawk Park, stopping the clock in 1:54 after brushing to the lead at three-quarters. McGean: “It’s a long season, so I’m in no rush to get him a race. If I can’t find one, we’ll start the year in the Ontario Sire Stakes on the 25th.”

Makes his first appearance in the poll staying perfect in two starts this year after taking his division of the PaSS in 1:50.4. Cancelliere: “He was a little clumsy at 2 but still a nice horse. He’s much more sure-footed this year. I kind of expected that effort (of his win on Saturday). If he sees a target, he wants to after it. His next race is in the Sire Stakes on the 19th.”

Rallied well to get second to a 1-5 shot in his first outing of the year in a non-winners of 5 at Philly after going a second-over trip. Pelling: “He was tremendous. He had the eight hole on a horrendous track. Fastest last quarter of the day. I’m super happy with the race. He’s beautiful. We’ll go in Sire Stakes on  Monday at Monticello.”
