The world’s greatest
trotting spectacle is just six weeks away, and this year’s edition of the
Prix’d’Amerique may feature an actual Amerique
– the trotting mare Maven.
The daughter of
Glidemaster – M Stewart, now trained by Jimmy Takter and driven by Yannick
Gingras for owners Herb Liverman, John Fielding and Joyce McClelland is headed to
France to race in the Prix de Bourgogne on Dec. 28, a preliminary event for the
Prix d’Amerique. How she fares will determine if Jimmy Taker tries for a second
victory in the race that attracts over 40,000 spectators on the last Sunday in
January. Takter also trained the 1999 winner, the legendary Moni Maker.
