COME FOR THE SHIRT, STAY FOR THE STAKES…OR VICE VERSA

BY FRANK DRUCKER, Publicity Director, Empire City @ Yonkers Raceway

YONKERS, NY, Monday, April 21, 2014—As if a million-dollar purse night wasn’t enough, Yonkers Raceway has enhanced Saturday night’s George Morton Levy/Blue Chip Matchmaker card with the ever-popular horsey haberdashery.

To commemorate Foiled Again’s ascension to richest standardbred ever, a green Foiled Again T-shirt shall be given away—while supplies last--on both the apron and fourth floors.

Saturday night, of course, finds Foiled Again looking for a Levy Memorial Pacing Series hat trick. The leading point-earner in the just-concluded five-week prelims, he leads the way into the $567,000 final…by far the largest Levy purse ever.

Also on the program is the $371,400 final of the Matchmaker (also the richest in this event’s history), so the leading older pacers of both genders are on display. The Levy and Matchmaker are easily the two richest races in North America of the season to date. Throw in a pair of consolations ($100,000-Levy, $75,000-Matchmaker) and the total purse for the night is already past seven figures.

The open draws for both races takes place Tuesday afternoon, included in the regular Saturday draw.

The Raceway's five-night-per-week live schedule continues, with first post every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:10 PM. Evening simulcasting accompanies all live programs, with afternoon simulcasting available daily.
