YONKERS,
NY, Wednesday, December 11, 2013—For the seventh consecutive holiday season,
the “Christmas Spirit” toy and coat drive organized by Yonkers Raceway/Empire
City has brought out the best in its guests and vendors, all for the benefit of
Catholic Charities.
Thursday
morning (Dec. 12), Empire City Casino President & CEO, Timothy J. Rooney,
makes the presentation of over 500 toys and coats. Donations from the two-week
drive shall be accepted by the Catholic Charities trio of Monsignor Kevin
Sullivan, Karen Reynolds and Sister Christine Hennessey, along with Orla
Kelleher of Aisling Irish Community Center. The event is scheduled for 10
AM at Empire City’s Entertainment Lounge, located on the first floor of the
Gotham Palace.
Empire
City and Yonkers Raceway has a long history of working with Catholic Charities
to help New Yorkers in need, non-Catholics and Catholics alike.
“There are no greater deeds than charity and service,” Rooney said.
Catholic Charities is a federation of approximately 90 agencies and programs
located throughout the 10 counties of the Archdiocese of New York. It helps
solve the problems of New Yorkers in need, with services that protect and
nurture children, resolve family crises, assist the hungry and homeless,
support the physically and emotionally challenged, and integrate immigrants and
refugees.
Empire
City/Yonkers Raceway wishes to acknowledge the generous contribution of Jams, a
California-based, family-run company specializing in promotional items. The
company’s president, Josh Blake, is also going to be on hand Thursday.
