YONKERS, NY, Monday, June 23,
2014—Yonkers Raceway’s veteran track announcer, John Hernan, was the subject of
a local TV profile this past weekend.
News 12 Westchester stopped up to the
booth last Friday night and spoke with the 47-year-old Hernan before the races
about his craft, then showed him in action during the early part of the card.
The story first aired Friday night, then was cycled through the weekend.
“I was very flattered they did a story
about me,” Hernan—Yonkers’ voice since 1999--said. “I get a thrill out of doing
this job every night, and I hope it came across that way.”
(Author’s aside…News 12 has been a
long-time friend of the Raceway, reporting on all of our major stakes races
and, as was the case here, any number of features. We appreciate their
continued interest.)
