YONKERS,
NY, Thursday, August 15, 2013--The George Brennan Countdown Clock took a back
seat Thursday night, with Brian Sears the main culprit.
Brennan, who entered the evening three wins away from the 8,000-victory
plateau, knocked a pair off that number, the first when Stormunn ($9) stuck his
schnoz out on the wire in the $20,000, ninth-race pace (1:55.1). He then aired
with fave Majic Trend ($5.80) in the $21,000, 12th-race trot.
"Majic's" effort of 2:01.3 for the mile-and-one-sixteenth was a new
track record for 4-year-old mares.
Meanwhile Sears, noted party pooper, won seven races on the 13-race program,
all with wagering favorites. He started early, with G G Roulette ($5.10) in the
$11,000 pacing opener (1:55).
After breaking at 3-5 in the second-race trot, Sears consecutively doubled with
people's choices Priceless Edition ($3.30) in the $11,000, fourth-race pace
(1:55), and Hoboken Sonny ($4.80) in the $15,000, fifth-race trot (1:57.1).
Sears and just-over-even-money Dinah Ross ($4.10) won a three-way photo in the
$11,000, seventh-race pace (1:56.4), before another two-fer in races 10 and 11.
The former was with odd-on Shawnee Dancer ($3.10) in a $20,000 pace (1:54.1),
while the latter was a loose pocket with Dawn's Legacy ($4.30) in a $24,000
pace (1:55.2).
Sears' seven-pack was completed when Duel Cheeks ($3) eased from first-over in
the $15,500 pacing finale (1:55.2).
