M1 - Junior Trendsetter Highlights Big Night at The Big M

Coming into the Final of the Junior Trendsetter, two horses were looking to continue their road to a potential start in The Meadowlands Pace.  With the teletimer reading 1:51.3, those two horses did just that.

Resistance Futile parlayed a perfect second over trip into a series sweep as the overwhelming favorite for trainer Robert Siegelman with Andy Miller at the lines.  But the road to victory wasn’t easy as a stubborn Axiom Hanover, making just his third lifetime start fought him tenaciously through the stretch to a very strong runner-up finish.  Both horses are nominated to The Meadowlands Pace.

The Aquarius Series got underway and it featured some big names from last year’s three year old pacing crop.  Warrawee Needy, making his first start as a four year old rolled to a 1:50 victory with Mark Macdonald, defeating another sharp three year old from 2012, Escape The News.  Warrawee Needy is one of a stellar cast nominated to the Meadowlands Free For All Championship Series.

Coming into this week, Rene Allard was just 5 for 68 on the meet, but Saturday was a different story.  Teamed up with his brother/driver Simon Allard, the stable sent out three winners on the 13 race program.

In wagering news, it was another sensational night at the Meadowlands.  The total handle of $3,614,298 was an increase of $706,187 or 24% from the same day in 2012.

Racing returns on Thursday night for the First Round of the Rags To Riches series, with post time at 7:15 P.M.
